connection speed question
Hi, I'm really intersted in buying this game, but I'm not sure if my internet connection is fast enough for the game to run properly. I have 56k dial up.

I played the game for over 1 month on 56k and it ran perfectly, I have just upgraded to ADSL and the only difference that I can see is download times for updates, actual gameplay has not altered at all.
So to answer your question ,YES 56k is fast enough. |

I can beat that. I'm playing on a 26.4k connection, and having a ball! In 30+ hours of gameplay, I've noticed a very few stutters... but for the most part the game runs flawlessly.

Yep, 56K is plenty. I have been playing since it came out on dialup with no problems. Funny thing is, most of the people I play with that complain about lag or disconnects are people on cable modems. I rarely see any lag at all and have only had one disconnect. The only problem I ever have is going into a new area sometimes having to wait for some files to download. Usually it is less than a minute, but when you have a group waiting for you it feels like an eternity! Oh, and I also play using teamspeak so it handles both fine. The developers did an amazing job of making this online aspect of this game work for everyone regardless of connection speed.

Yep, you're much more likely to experience problems because of funky ISPs than lack of bandwidth. The game seems to only transfer at a few hundred B/s, except for when the client is downloading data for a new area or update.

If you have a really good connection on a 56k, that's about 50kbps. Teamspeak works fine when you don't have like eight different people talking at once, yelling stuff at each other.
Ventrilo works if the server's set to a low frequency. If it's set to like 44000 htz, you're in trouble, though. |

Anet designed Guild Wars so it would play at just about any connection speed.
Smart move if you ask me. |
